October 26, 20197 Things To Take Note Before Installing Laminate Flooring
Laminate flooring involves use of multi layer flooring which fuses synthetic products with wood and hence the lamination process. It has been growing in popularity in the recent past due to the fact that it is easier to install and maintain when compared to other flooring materials. Most people now want to have this flooring in their homes so as to cope up with the trend.
Before installing laminate flooring however there are a couple of things that you need to take note off to ensure that you gain the most from it.
1. The layout of your floor.
Most houses have rooms that are irregularly shaped with many doorways and transitional areas. All this have to be taken in to consideration when planning for the process. Ensure that you take your measurements as correctly as possible so as to avoid under or over calculating.
2. Cleanability and stain resistance.
Ensure that the flooring you have chosen is suited to what you are looking for. Some materials are more stain resistant than others. So if you plan on installing the flooring in a room that will be exposed to a lot of stains, you should solely focus on flooring materials that have very high stain resistance.
3. Static load.
Some floors are mainly used for holding loads. If you think that your floor will be subject to a lot of pressure from a static load, go for flooring material that can withstand indentation from a static load for a long period of time. This will help ensure the floor lasts for a long time since it was built for purposes like that.
4. Water resistance.
This measures how the surface of the flooring material will be able to resist wear through the abrasive action of water on the decor layer. If the house or room you plan on installing the laminate flooring is likely to have water, choose flooring materials that are highly resistant to water.
5. Light resistance.
Here you check whether the flooring will be able to retain its color when exposed to various sources of light such as sunlight through a window glass. Some surfaces when exposed to sunlight lose their color. Ensure that you choose one which has light resistance if you plan on installing it in areas with windows that allow sunlight to pass through.
6. Check the ball resistance.
This is used to check the fracture that will be caused on the floor by a ball of either small diameter or large diameter. If the fracture is unusually large it is best that you look for other options. The fractures are to be expected but they should only arise when the pressure is too high. If the ball resistance is low it will damage your floor very quickly.
7. Thickness swell.
Some laminate flooring when exposed to water tend to swell. Go for flooring which has high resistance to swelling when exposed to water. It will probably last longer and still retain its shape. Those that absorb water a lot tend to become deformed quite fast.
